Construction document review is full of repetitive, text-heavy tasks: finding every reference to a spec section, cleaning up markup comments before a set goes out, comparing revisions, or pulling markup data into a meeting summary. With Bluebeam Max, you can connect Revu to Claude and handle many of those tasks with a plain-language request instead of a string of clicks or a custom script.

This guide explains what the Bluebeam Max Claude integration does, what you need before you start, and where to find SolidCAD's step-by-step setup instructions. It also covers how to try Bluebeam Max free.

What the Revu and Claude connection lets your team do

The connection uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that lets an AI assistant work with Revu's tools through commands you start. Once it's set up, you can ask Claude to work on the PDF you have open in Revu. Based on Bluebeam's documentation, Bluebeam AI workflows through Revu and MCP include:

  • Searching PDFs and running batch search and highlight
  • Creating and editing markups, including search and replace of markup text
  • Analyzing markup data and turning it into summaries or reports
  • Comparing text across files
  • Working with document structure, such as bookmarks and hyperlinks

The practical value is time back on repetitive, multi-step work. It doesn't replace professional judgment. Claude works from the text in your documents, so someone on your team still needs to review every result before it goes into a submittal, RFI response or estimate.

What you need before you start

  • Bluebeam Max or an active Max trial. The MCP connection is a Bluebeam Max feature.
  • Revu 21.9 or later on Windows desktop, signed in with your Bluebeam ID.
  • The Claude desktop app and a Claude account. Claude is a separate product from Anthropic and is not part of your Bluebeam subscription. The web version of Claude isn't supported for this connection.
  • An internet connection.
  • Internal approval to use AI tools with project documents.

A few limits are worth knowing up front. The connection works with text Revu can read, so flattened or scanned PDFs need OCR first, and it can't search visually for symbols or drawing elements. Only the first Revu instance you open can use MCP. Claude usage also counts against your Claude plan's limits, which Bluebeam doesn't manage.

How the connection works

The Bluebeam MCP server runs locally on your computer. Claude doesn't browse your files on its own; it acts in Revu only when you send a prompt. Text from your prompts and documents is sent to the AI provider for processing, so review your Claude privacy and data-training settings, along with your company's AI policy, before using it on sensitive project files. You can also limit which Bluebeam tools Claude is allowed to use in Claude's connector settings.

At a high level, Revu and Claude setup follows four stages: install Revu and the Claude desktop app, enable MCP in Revu's Admin preferences, connect Revu to Claude for Windows, and confirm the Bluebeam connector inside Claude. A quick test prompt, asking Claude how many pages are in the active PDF, confirms everything is talking.

Three illustrative prompts for construction document workflows

The examples below are illustrative. Results depend on your documents, markup data and how you word the request, so treat the output as a first pass and check it before you rely on it.

1. Spec reference check (architects and engineers)

"In the active PDF in Revu, search for every reference to section 08 71 00 and highlight each one." This is useful when a section is renumbered or replaced. Claude finds text matches; it won't catch references worded differently or embedded in non-searchable images.

2. Markup cleanup before issue (project managers and document controllers)

"In the active PDF, find markups with 'TBD' in the comment and list them by page number." You get a working list to resolve before the set goes out. Your team still decides what each placeholder should say.

3. Markup summary for a coordination meeting (contractors and estimators)

"Summarize the markups in the active PDF by author and status, and list any that are still open." This gives you a starting agenda. Confirm totals against the Markups List before sharing them with the wider project team.

Frequently asked questions

Is Claude included with Bluebeam Max?

No. Bluebeam Max includes the MCP connection in Revu. You need your own Claude account and the Claude desktop app.

Which version of Revu do I need?

Revu 21.9 or later on Windows desktop.

Does AI for construction document review replace a manual check?

No. Claude can speed up searching, sorting and summarizing, but it can miss items and make mistakes. A qualified person should review every result.

Can existing Bluebeam subscribers try Bluebeam Max for free?

Yes. Your Org Admin can start a 15-day Bluebeam Max trial and assign up to 10 seats. Trial users keep their current plan and return to it when the trial ends.

Try Bluebeam Max and connect Revu to Claude

The best way to judge the integration is to test it on two or three real workflows your team handles every week. As a Canadian Bluebeam Platinum Partner, SolidCAD can help you plan the trial, train users and administrators, and troubleshoot setup, with support in English and French. Learn more about SolidCAD Bluebeam training or talk to our Bluebeam team.

Already have a Bluebeam subscription? Your organization's Bluebeam Org Admin can activate the Bluebeam Max trial in Org Admin and assign trial access to users. If you're not the admin, ask your Bluebeam administrator to enable it. See Bluebeam's Bluebeam Max trial instructions.
